EJ Tamayo - Driver #10

I was born in Miami, FL to my Cuban-Guatemalan-American father Enrique and my Cuban-American mother Maggie. I have an older sister Marisa who is a great supporter of mine and my racing. As a young boy, I was very active and my parents put me to play many different sports. Racing has always been a part of our family environment including watching it on TV and attending various NASCAR and INDY race events. My dad used to take me to the local rental kart track where I always pushed my limits and that of the kart, even getting punished by the stewards for being too aggressive on the rental track.

At the age of 10, my dad’s friend introduced us to competitive kart racing down at the AMR Homestead Miami Motorplex track. At first site, I fell in love with it. We connected with a great race team Ductard Racing later transitioning to racing for Ralf Schumacher of IPK, a Praga racing brand. I then started racing for Piquet Sports America, a team owned by Nelson Piquet Jr. Throughout these first 4-5 years, I won dozens of podiums and championship standings in races throughout Florida.

In 2021, at 14 years old, I landed a coveted spot racing in the Carolina Pro Late Model Series (CPLMS) with a great up-and-coming team, Tony Cosentino Racing. I, my family and team settled on 5 races my first season and I progressed throughout the season capping it off with a 6th place finish in my final race at Hickory Motor Speedway in North Carolina. In 2022, I am looking forward to participating in the full CPLMS season, various other Late Model races throughout Florida and the Carolinas, legends car races and even Spec Miata races in Florida including at the Homestead-Miami Race track.
